Buying a Saxophone As with the clarinet, these reed instruments can be divided into three distinct categories.
Beginning Saxophone Student models are built for easy response and durability. Keywork or mechanism is simplified to promote longer life and fewer repairs. These saxophones are usually the least expensive and can be used by the beginning student. The high F# key on these instruments is not important as the note is rarely played and can be found using other keys if needed.
Intermediate Saxophones are either modified student models or simplified professional models. Suited for the advancing student as the next step-up these instruments feature improved keywork and intonation. Saxophonists wanting all the benefits of a professional saxophone at a lower price usually purchase
Advanced Saxophones, also known as semi-professional saxophones. Keywork, intonation, craftsmanship and material are similar or identical to top line professional saxophones.
