The best part was this past Christmas when we combined the orchestra, rhythm section, acting, narration, sound effects, lighting and video into one seamless presentation. From our stage we triggered all the effects, video footage, and music sequences. Our conductor, rhythm section and orchestra played to the click of our sequence, which augmented our strings, brass and vocals. The “Story,” a video presentation from Integrity Music, was triggered to be in sync with the orchestra and lyric projection. Later in the service we used a variety of video loops and collections synchronized from the on-stage sequencer.
We used everything from iWorship! songs to Digital Juice and other libraries. To accomplish this we sent MIDI across an XLR into the MIDI input of the PR-80. In the sequence we would first send an “all notes off” command that would fade any running video to black. Then we would send a command 64 off, (sustain pedal) that would adjust the PR-80 to a single stream format. One other item of importance that we found was we need to include a 0% pitch change in the header file, in case the operators had changed the video playback speed to something other than 100%. Finally we would include a palette change and a key command that selected the correct video clip.
Everything worked flawlessly. We had several comments of Broadway, Vegas, Disneyish in excellence and quality. People remember more of what they see than what they hear. To impact this generation we need to include as much of the visual arts as possible—the Edirol PR-80 and V-440HD are the best tools at that price to accomplish this goal.
