Originally, South American rainmakers are made from a dried cactus and filled with various grains. Thorns are pressed through the outside wall and protrude into the inner cavity of the cactus. When the grains fall over the thorns a "drizzling" rain effect is produced.
Today many tube-shaped plastic versions exist, but the Meinl Rainmaker is uniquely different. Due to the circular construction of the Meinl Rainmaker, it can be easily mounted to a cymbal stand. By simply turning the instrument a drizzle can immediately change into the sound of a monsoon.
The major advantage over other rainmakers is that the sound can be continuous, without false changes in intensity. The durable body is made from premium fiberglass and produces a very loud effect.
