This unit is equipped with a CTCSS (Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System) and has a range of up to 5km . When the CTCSS is activated, only radios tuned to the same channel and with the same CTCSS subchannel selected can communicate with each other. This allows users to set up a ÒnetÓ of radios and eliminate any extraneous transmissions from coming through.
The unit also has duplex capability for accessing repeater stations, a channel scan function, built-in belt clip and a VOX feature for voice-activated transmissions eg with the optional X 0551 headset mic. The VOX sensitivity can be adjusted to suit the microphone and background noise conditions.
